Technical Sharing - About Octane Gem Rendering
For Hefei Weistar Properties, we produced the Weistar·ONE139·Fourth-Generation Residence Terrace Garden feature. The client requested a key focus on the 6.2-meter ceiling height of the fourth-generation residence terrace, so the entire animation process was crafted to center around the terrace.
In the initial creative concept, the core hero shot was first established, with an attempt to begin with a frontal full view of the terrace. However, during the animation motion review, it was discarded due to a logical camera conflict with the hero shot, and replaced by a close-up of the logo transitioning into a morphing close-up of the staircase facade, dynamically linking the camera to the hero shot. The initial color design, after communication with the client, also discarded dark green elements in favor of muted gold tones.
Technically, under tight project timelines (less than 5 days), I typically resolve elements such as light refraction, background, and glow during the 3D stage, outputting only perfect mattes for the final composite. The advantage of this approach is that the lighting in the frame aligns with intuition as much as possible, eliminating the time spent on layered rendering and post-production compositing, thereby compressing the project execution cycle. Correspondingly, there is a natural disadvantage in visual richness and post-production flexibility compared to the standard layered rendering + post-production compositing workflow, but this trade-off remains acceptable given the time saved.
